Is that a dorsal stripe? Or just a trick of the light? :)

its there, but its probably just the way the fur grows and reflects the light there.

lol. well the gene that causes this coat color is the 'silver' gene, so that's why. some of them are dappled. thanks

I'm totally with you. Rocky Mountains are so beautiful. Although the chocolate body with flaxen mane and tail is, by far, my favorite coat, I've also seen them in a champagne color with an Akhal Teke-esque metallic sheen that is also lovely.

Agreed. I know it'll be like $5000 to get one, but I will buy one that is chocolate with the flaxen mane and tail. Red chocolate Rocky Mountains are also very pretty though. I really love all horses, but Rocky Mountains quickly worked their way into the position of favorite. Haha!

Red chocolate, huh? I'll have to look that up... but, yeah, I used to be in love with Arabians, but they're just too crazy. They're insanely gorgeous, but after spending so many years with Quarter Horses (western pleasure), I'm too used to mellow. Besides, Rocky's are so much cheaper.

(sorry to interrupt) just had to mention that red chocolate is just a chestnut with the silver gene, and silver dapple is a black horse with the silver gene.

Yeah. Arabs can be high strung. Depends on the individual horse though. I've seen some pretty relaxed ones. I've also seen the crazy ones. Haha.

Red chocolate may not be the right term for the color. I've just seen a couple advertised as that color, so I assume the sellers know what they're talking about. I've never even met a Rocky in person, but I'm totally in love with them.

That's true... one of my early trainers (I horseback ride)had an Arabian who was pretty calm. He was super-cute: bright, golden chestnut w/ a blaze that covered his muzzle. He was so funny! He would chew bubble gum and drink Mountain Few from the bottle.

I've been lucky enough to see a few Rockies in person- all at a horse show many years ago. The weren't the most beautiful, but they were incredibly mellow and sweet. I looked up the red chocolate coloring and it basically looks like a cross between a dark liver chestnut and a red chestnut- like blood bay.

Yeah. I ride too. Just haven't had an instructor in ages since I don't compete. I just trail ride. Haha! That's probably why I want a Rocky. To have a calm and smooth trail buddy.

I think the red chocolate ones are pretty. Still, not quite as pretty as signature color though. :D

Good trainers are hard to find... I got lucky enough to get my trainer from the girl who owned the Arabian I told you about: my current trainer had trained her.

Trail riding? Then, I'm guessing you ride Western... ? I started in English, but switched over when I was eight or nine.

And, yeah, I have to admit that their coloring is hands-down their selling-point for me. XD
