order at Another Studio. i think i am in LOVE with bi-colored manes. it was so fun to paint! can't wait to make another horse with highlights.

this time i'll take a moment to give you guys the run-down on the making of this pic. after cutting out the horse i noticed it was warped badly from the camera lens, so i used the warp tool to get him into thinner shape. first i started by using my amazing Portraiture filter [an amazing add-on I got for Photoshop, it works miracles!!] on the horse and bg to make it smooth and dramatic. then i did some individual clean-up on his scars. dodged some lighter highlights on the top of his body, while darkening the shadows under his belly and legs with the burn tool. darkened his white socks. adjusted the bg and horse's contrast and darkened both. also used the color filters tool to warm the bg up with a golden shade. then i applied the same photo filter shade on the horse to match its color to the bg.

this is when i made new layers for the hair and began smudging the tail out, since it was ready to work with. as there was no mane i had to draw it in from scratch, and i think it matched the tail pretty well on this pic. drew in the forelock and applied the Noiseware filter to blur out the bg and horse into smoothness [this is my secret tool. you have to buy it separately though, doesn't come with Photoshop and its way better than the one that comes with Photoshop.] so after this de-noised the pic, i save the final image [even though i've saved about 3 versions of it by now just to be safe, as i always do. i love to use .tiff format]. i shrank the image for DA and then sharpened it carefully. went over the edges of the horse with the blur tool on the areas that were too sharp, added my copyright and uploaded it here at 2am. phew.. feels good to finally be done.
